The work of John Muir was aimed at understanding how the natural world works and how people can impact in a positive and negative way on that environment. Cedar House School provides a place for educating young people and allowing them to understand and explore the relationships they have with other people. The natural classroom is one way to give the students an opportunity to see that what they learn in school can be applied in a useful and practical way in another setting.

Something else that they all have in common is that they also provide an environment to have fun and be physical. The benefits of this to the students are that they can become healthy and develop a healthy regard for the world around them. Getting out, taking exercise, gaining knowledge, gaining experience, and, going public with what they have learned. It's the five portions that helps to keep a balanced outlook on life.
